Introduction to Ethics and Professionalism in Medicine

Course Description:

This course is a systematic overview for biomedical graduate students in the ethical concepts and traditions that are the foundation of biomedical science.

Its aim is to provide students with a framework to recognize, examine and resolve ethical conflicts in their professional lives.

Upon completion students will be able to identify and critique the historical roots of ethical commitments in science, trace the historical developments on contemporary issues in scientific research, recognize the primary features of an ethical problem in science and research, identify professional and legal guidelines on the ethical issues, formulate recommendations for preventing and resolving ethical conflicts and identify appropriate institutional resources for addressing ethical concerns in research and graduate education.
